What Does New Story Kenhorst School Offer?

New Story Kenhorst is a private school, licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, for students ages 5 to 21 years who are in need of a full time Emotional Support placement, and require a higher level of support than what their home school district can provide. The following services and features are provided at New Story Kenhorst:

  • Behavior Consultation and Support
  • Crisis Intervention
  • Transition Services for students 14 and older
  • Counseling services
  • Health and Physical Education
  • Small classroom environment
  • High staff to student ratio
  • Standards aligned academic curriculum
  • Designated No Place For Hate through the Anti-Defamation League

How and when are students enrolled?

A referral for placement can be made at any time. Students do not have to begin at the start of a calendar period or quarter, but can be enrolled anytime at New Story. We work collaboratively with the school district in order to decide if New Story will meet a child’s academic and behavioral needs.

Who pays the tuition?

Funding for the student’s educational placement will be arranged through the home school district along with transportation services.

Can a child return to his or her home school after spending time at New Story Kenhorst?

Absolutely – that’s our goal!

The planning process for returning every student to his/her home school begins at the time of enrollment and continues throughout a student’s time at New Story. We are committed to working individually with each student until his/her educational and behavioral goals are met, and the student has the skills and motivation needed to return to his/her home school.

Will my child be assigned homework?

Homework is not assigned on a regular basis. Students are given opportunities during the school day to complete all assigned work. However, it may be assigned more regularly as the student begins to transition back to their home school setting.

Will my child be able to graduate?

All grades and academic credits will transfer to the home school district to be added to the students’ transcript. This is done to help students remain on-track to graduate despite any time spent out of their home school district.

What supplies does my child have to bring?

All New Story students will be provided with the necessary supplies such as pens, pencils, and notebooks. Students are required to bring in their own lunch.

Is transportation provided by New Story schools?

Transportation to and from New Story schools is provided by the student’s home school district. For more information about transportation, please contact your school districts Special Education Department.
